Privacy Policy

Scanary (the "app") is operated by Doanything AI (ABN 15 938 400 909), a business based in Australia ("we", "us", "our"). This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information in connection with the app. We are committed to handling personal information in accordance with the Australian Privacy Principles ("APPs") under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), to the extent they apply to us.

Scanary does not require you to create an account. We have designed the app to collect as little information as possible while still providing food-label scanning guidance for pregnancy and young-child safety.

Information We Handle

Anonymous device identifier - A randomly generated ID stored on your device using the iOS Keychain. This ID is sent with each API request and is used to authenticate the request with HMAC-SHA256, enforce rate limits and manage basic usage. It is not linked to your name, email, Apple ID or other direct identifiers.
Food-label images you choose to scan - When you scan or upload a product label, the image is transmitted over HTTPS to our backend and to AI processing services so the app can read the label and generate a safety summary. We use the image only to provide the scan result.
Pregnancy or child-safety context you choose to provide - The app can tailor results using context such as pregnancy mode, trimester, due-date timing, child age range, feeding stage, allergies, dietary preferences, goals, concerns and preferred language. This context is sent with a scan only when needed to personalise that result.
Subscription status - Whether your device has an active Scanary Pro subscription is checked through RevenueCat and Apple so we can unlock paid features. Apple handles payments directly; we do not see your Apple ID or payment card details.
Request metadata - Our infrastructure may process standard technical metadata such as timestamps, IP-derived routing information, user agent, error logs and rate-limit counters to keep the service secure and reliable.

Information We Do Not Collect

No user account, password or login credentials.
No name, email address, phone number or postal address.
No Apple ID or payment card details.
No advertising identifiers, ad tracking or sale of data.
No GPS location, contacts, calendar, HealthKit, biometric or microphone data.

Data Stored Locally on Your Device

Most app data is stored locally on your device and is not available to us unless you choose to send it as part of a scan request. This includes:

Your scan history and saved scan results.
Your onboarding answers, preferences and pregnancy or child-safety profile.
Your local free-scan count and settings.
Your anonymous device identifier in the iOS Keychain.

You can remove local app data by deleting the app from your device.

Third Parties and Overseas Disclosures

To operate the app, we disclose limited information to the following third parties. Some recipients process information outside Australia, including in the United States and through global edge networks. By using the app you consent to these overseas disclosures for the purposes described.

We do not sell, rent or trade your information to third parties for their own marketing purposes.

Data Retention

Food-label images are used to produce the scan result and are not intentionally retained by us after processing is complete.
Anonymous device ID records and request metadata are retained only for as long as reasonably necessary to operate, secure, debug and rate-limit the service.
Subscription information is retained by RevenueCat and Apple according to their own policies.
Local data on your device remains until you delete it in the app, reset the app where available or uninstall the app.

Security

All API traffic is transmitted over HTTPS. Requests to our backend are signed with HMAC-SHA256 using an anonymous device identifier stored in the iOS Keychain. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect the limited information we handle.

Children's Privacy

Scanary is intended for parents, carers and adults checking food labels. It is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, please contact us and we will take reasonable steps to delete it.

Your Rights

Because Scanary does not require an account and generally does not hold information that directly identifies you, some access and correction requests may be difficult to fulfil. You can still:

Delete local app data by deleting the app from your device.
Manage or cancel your subscription at any time through your Apple ID account settings.
Contact us with any privacy question or concern at support@doanythingai.com.

If you believe we have breached the Australian Privacy Principles, you can make a complaint in writing to the email address above. We will investigate your complaint and respond within a reasonable time. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the app after an update constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
